The Busy Lizzies are a group of Bengali women who live in East London's Shadwell. For several years they have worked to improve the run-down areas of their community, turning them into restful green spaces bursting with plants. They were then awarded a BTCV People's Places Award of £8000. With this they were able to formalise their group and expand the project, involving more members of the local community. They held community planting days where they invited members of the local community to join them. The mornings were spent planting shrubs and plants and also planting up hanging baskets which they were then able to take away.
