BTCV in partnership with multi-cultural faith centres in Glasgow has engaged a group of young Asians on a faith based media project. After learning the skills of filmmaking, they are now using these skills to investigate the links between different faiths and the environment. The aim is then to engage people from the different faith communities, eg Sikh, Hindu, Jewish, Muslim and Buddhist, towards practical environmental activities reflecting their common beliefs.
Positive Images also worked on a project in partnership with the Muslim Network in Glasgow, on a week-long Summer School for 80 young Muslims at Mugdock Country Park. The younger group studied the biodiversity within the park using tree trails and treasure hunt activities. The older youths created short video clips answering questions geared at the environment and the Islamic faith. A tree was donated by the older youths in a symbolic gesture of giving something back to the Earth.
The Positive Images project illustrates that with innovative thinking and being responsive to communities' needs and interests, projects can continue beyond the EfA initiative.
