The Tyrone Conservation Action Team have worked with a community of Travellers and their children in Omagh to create a community garden - a place to meet, relax and hold family events. The garden is located on wasteland provided by a local housing association, next to houses where the Travellers are based. There is also space for the Travellers to grow fruit and vegetables.

The site was difficult to develop and the project took a while to develop due to 'fear and mistrust on all sides'. There were many other problems: some members of the group left part way through the project to go travelling, and there were ongoing illiteracy and educational problems. However the commitment of the project workers and some key local people meant that the project pushed on and the garden is now complete. The garden opening was marked by the unveiling of a mosaic mural illustrating the group's cultural history.
