Women from different communities in Glasgow and from a variety of cultures have turning 'trash into art' in environmental activity workshops. The participants, predominantly from Afro-Caribbean and Asian origins, and representing a wide range of ages and physical abilities, have been brought together by their interest in art and a newly discovered role within their environment. The sessions enable them to explore their creativity and develop new skills.
The re-use of waste has obvious environmental benefits, but the workshops also achieve a genuine cross-cultural inclusiveness that is helping to build understanding between the communities. The workshops were established by a partnership between Network House and Meridian (two of Glasgow's major cultural centres) and BTCV Scotland.
