In a courtyard or a place where excavation is not desirable, a raised pond is a possibility. Even a small container such as a tin bath can provide a mini habitat for aquatic insects and plants, as well as attracting birds. Containers can be surrounded by boulders or plants to disguise the edge of the container. Aquatic plants should be rooted in pots to help prevent the plants from spreading too quickly. Steep-sided containers will require a ramp to be provided to give birds access for drinking and bathing.
