Keep seed beds weed free. Weed by hand or using a hoe between the rows. Application of well rotted compost, grass cuttings, peat or bark as a mulch will suppress weeds. Apply a layer 20-30mm thick in winter or late spring on damp weed-free ground. The young trees should be lifted in winter each year and transplanted to a new bed until large enough to plant out.
