First aid boxes should contain a sufficient quantity of first aid materials, a guidance card and nothing else. Suitable contents are listed in Appendix 2. The number of first aid kits needed is not solely dependent on the number of people present, but should be sufficient to cope with the type and number of incidents likely to be encountered, i.e. to meet the risks identified in the risk assessment. In most cases in the field one standard kit (designed for the needs of a group of 10-12 people) should be sufficient, but if work is taking place at several locations then each one of these needs a kit.
