Water poses a hazard because of its potential to make volunteers cold or to create slippery working conditions as well as the danger of drowning. Pools and rivers often also present pollution hazards.

  • Never leave people alone working in or close to open water.
  • Don't work in deep or fast flowing water.
  • Avoid crumbling or slippery waterside banks.
  • Don't drink stream or river water.
  • Avoid working in soaking rain and beware of ice.
