Your management plan will tell you what you need to do to look after your site. It won't tell you how you are going to tackle each bit of the plan. You will need to assess each project individually. You can use BTCV's handbooks to find the technical information you need to undertake projects, and ask local environmental organisations for advice. There are some things you need to think about when planning every project - Safety - for you and others who may come onto the site, both while the group are working (for long jobs the site must be safe with things part done), and after you have completed the job. For any structures e.g. stiles and small bridges, you may need to consider periodic inspections. (See Health and safety for more information.)
- Access to the site - for your volunteers and any materials you might need.
- How long will the job take?
- Is this something the group can do - or is training required, or help from BTCV or contractors?
- The effects of the work on wildlife - this might affect when you do the work and how much you undertake in one season.
- Materials - what will you use, are they sustainably sourced, will they last well, will they affect the local ecology?
- Effects of the work on local people - do you need to explain what you are doing before you start work?
