Local Action is set out in two main parts. The first covers group organisation, including background planning which is essential if your practical work is to be successful and effective. A group that works well as a team will probably involve less work for its co-ordinator. A little bit of time spent on planning will allow you to get on with more practical work in the long run. The second part looks at all practical aspects of running projects, from planning what you need to do on your site to managing it safely. This is a huge topic and a guide this size can provide only a limited amount of information. BTCV publishes a range of handbooks and you will find details of these and other publications in the appendices. This is the fifth edition of a BTCV guide for local groups. It has been revised and many sections have been updated in line with major changes which have taken place in the conservation and volunteering movements, particularly in the areas of health and safety and effective partnerships. If you need further assistance or help with a specific problem, contact BTCV's Community Unit at BTCV, Balby Road, Doncaster DN4 0RH. Staff would be particularly interested in any advice or experience you feel would be helpful to other groups. There is also a nationwide network of local BTCV offices with staff who may be able to offer advice at a local level. The role of each local office varies considerably according to local funding; if you contact your local office you can find out how they can help you. This guide will be useful to all the volunteers involved in the running of your group and the organisation of your projects. Encourage them to read it. It is a practical guide to be used, not to be left on the shelf. All content copyright © 1986-2008 BTCV Ltd. Registered charity No. 261009 |
