Constructing a small pond will not only increase the beauty and diversity of habitats in your wildlife area but observation of its changing flora and fauna will provide a continual interest. It will be a practical contribution to the conservation of freshwater plants and animals at a time when this habitat is fast disappearing. Serious thought should be given to the siting and construction of a wildlife pond as ponds are difficult to move once constructed and require ongoing maintenance. If because of safety considerations ponds are out of the question, consider the possibility of making a marsh these wetlands are also under threat in the wild.
